Hey guys,

This is just a quick post to let you know I'm going to be uploading the blog posts I've been writing up for the fashion public relations company I've been working at as I think some of you may find them helpful if your looking for a career in fashion, pr or both! 😊

NARS HAUL

Hey everyone!

A few months back I was so excited to purchase my first Nars products and thought I'd do a little review on them.  I finally caved and tried out this brand as there was a discount code on ASOS (which is where I picked up all of these items!) and just couldn't resist. I'm such a sucker when it comes to sales on high end makeup, even when it's still ridiculously expensive. I think it just makes me feel slightly better about spending the cash haha.

First up is the Nars Sheer Glow foundation in the colour Punjab. I wish I had gone for a slightly darker shade as I think the colour Stromboli might have been a better match for the olive undertone in my fake tan, so I tend to use it when my fake tan is starting to wear off. Normally this foundation retails for £31 but I paid around £27 for it. My advice would be to wait until ASOS are offering a 20-30% discount code and you can save yourself some money! Or buy it from a store you can collect reward points on to spend at a later date.

When I first tried this foundation I thought it was really lovely but wasn't too sure if it was worth the price tag. It's the foundation I have on when I attended an MTV event in Glasgow (see previous posts) and by the time I got home it was sliding off my face, not the best look! I do have oily skin and had heard mixed reviews about this foundation for my skin type. I think that was one of the last times I wore it, but recently picked it up again and absolutely loved it (it's weird how your opinion on a product can completely change when you give it another chance eh?!)

This time round however I did pair it up with my smashbox pore minimising primer, powder and urban decay de slick setting spray, which I do with all my foundations. When I first tried it on again, I remember thinking my makeup looked realllyyyy different and couldn't figure out why, but it was down the foundation, it just looked so good! A friend of mine then popped into my work and commented on it asking what I was wearing which for me is a huge thumbs up and a real testiment to the product!

Firstly, the packaging is very sleek, and I love how simple Nars keeps all their products with their black and white theme but I am going to have a moan about the lack of a pump (just like everyone else seems to have had!) because at £31 it really should include this.

Apologies for the dirty cap, its been well used as of late!

It applies very smoothly and easily on the skin, I really like how it's a medium build able coverage but quite liquid-y. I just prefer that type of formula to to thick ones as they feel less heavy on the skin and aren't as likely to get cakey! I tend to use a flat top kabuki brush to stipple it on, but I've also used my real techniques miracle sponge which works just as well!

On longevity I do think it's really good, I do blot throughout the day but it doesn't leave me looking like an oil slick, it became more of a natural glow which I really like. Despite the foundation name it is definitely not a dewy foundation but I wouldn't say it was completely matte either (the 'glow' is pretty hard to describe!) Also when I wear it, it only sinks into my laughter lines slighty, which with some foundations is a real issue! So on that point I'm really happy with it.

I would only really recommend this foundation for those with normal to combo skin as dry skin types may find this clings to those pesky dry patches, as it did with me when I was a little to harsh with my skin over the winter using acne treatment.

Although this product was a definite splurge I'm glad I picked it up and would definetly repurchase it again! ❤️

Stay tuned for reviews on the duo eyeshadows and laguna bronzer! Oh, and I'm also waiting for one of their audacious lipsticks in the colour Racquel to arrive, so I'll be trying that out too.

XEN-TAN

As a self confessed tanning addict, I've tried out loads of products over the past few years in my quest to having a natural looking tan all year round, and I thought I'd write up a wee post about my current favourite, XEN-TAN.

Before using this tan, my holy grail was definitely the St Tropez mousse and I never really had to try out any others but last year I found that the tan was either completely drying my skin out or my skin had become allergic to it. After months of continuous use (which is obviously very very silly!) it became too painful and itchy to use and so my search for a new fake tan began!

I did some research and found the best type of fake tan for drier skin was to use a gel/lotion formula rather than a mousse as they're more moisturising. After trying out a few duds (including the gel formula of st tropez which I would've had to apply multiple layers to even look like I had a slight tan), I found the Xen Tan.

After looking up some reviews, all of which were really positive, I decided to try it out. I bought my XEN Dark Lotion 236ml from amazon for around £20, a bargain when it retails for £29 in Boots!

There's a few things I just love about this tan, firstly is the green based colour. It develops into a gorgeous deep olive colour on the skin and, in my opinion, is much more natural looking than most tans on the market which I find to be extremely yellow/orange looking on the skin.

Secondly was the properties in the lotion, it contains jojoba nut oils . This for me was the main reason I initially bought the product, as I was looking for a product that wouldn't dry out my skin further and had high quality ingredients.

Thirdly was the price, I don't mind spending a bit more on a good fake tan and this was within my budget as it's roughly the same price as St Tropez, but not as expensive as, for example, Vita Liberata.

And lastly was the smell, it smells so so good when applied (it has a vanilla scent to it!) and although it does develop into the fake tan 'biscuity' smell it does smelll better than others I've tried!

There are other colours and variations of this brand you can try, but this is the one I'd recommend as it's definitely not too dark, even for the fairest skin types!

I'm already on my second bottle of this stuff and have bought my third ready to use when I run out!

If you've tried this tan or know if any similar that you would like to recommend please leave it in the comments section below for me to check out! 😊

LOOK FANTASTIC JANUARY BEAUTY BOX

Last month I made an impulse beauty box buy from the Look Fantastic website while ordering my favourite EX1 foundation. I've heard loads about these type of monthly subscription boxes where you can sign up for the monthly subscription and receive a box full of surprise beauty goodies. The Look Fantastic one caught my eye as there's no contract to buy 6-12 months worth of boxes, you just sign up and pay each month, which I loved as I never really wanted to commit to some of the other boxes that make you pay that much upfront (especially as a poor student!)

Although I wish there had been more make up items in the box, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I got for £15, with the contents of the box worth £45! Plus there is a guaranteed 6 items per box and free worldwide shipping so everyone can get their hands on this.

January's Beauty Box contained:

  • Nuxe Creme Fraiche de Beaute Mask 50ml - £19.50
  • Molton Brown Templetree  Body Wash 100ml - 300ml £18.00 (full size)
  • Goldwell Dualsenses Color Extra Rich 60 Second Treatment 50ml - 200ml £11 (full size)
  • Philip Kingsley Daily Damage Defence 60ml - 250ml £22.00 (full size)
  • MyVitamins Energy (20) Tablets - 20 Tablets £4.49
  • Gatineau Strategie Jeunesse Eye Pads, 1 satchet of 2 pads - 6 pack £34.50

After getting the box about a week ago, i've so far tried the body wash, Nuxe Beaute Mask (which I couldn't believe was £19.50 alone!), and the Goldwell conditioner. I was really impressed with the body wash and the Nuxe moisturiser which left my skin feeling so so soft!

I really enjoyed opening up this little box of treats during the January gloom and think I might order the next February one as it's such a nifty idea getting to try products you maybe haven't heard of, were a bit pricey or you just never thought to try!

There's still a few boxes left if you want to try out any of these products, I'd highly recommend it!
